Excellent comments.
I was told shortly after the podcast of my mistake with the ram, I assumed it was as my iMac was, one stick of 512, but I was wrong. I will correct it on the next podcast.
Thanks again for listening, I appreciate the help.
:-)

Regarding MacBook RAM:

First, an error. The MacBook does not come with one stick of 512MB. It comes with two 256MB DIMMs in order to feed its dual-channel memory controller, especially important due to the integrated graphics controller using system RAM. Apple recommends installing DIMMs in pairs if you do upgrade.

Secondly, a recommendation: I have never found it necessary to purchase expensive name-brand memory. I have upgraded my MacBook Pro as well as my girlfriend's MacBook with the cheapest 1GB DDR2-667 SO-DIMMs I could find: Corsair VS1GSDS667D2 "Value Select". I bought them from ZipZoomFly.com for $89.90; it only cost me $180 for 2GB, versus over $200 from OWC. I know there's lots of superstition in the Mac community about buying certain RAM from certain suppliers, but fortunately I'm a rather new convert so I don't have to abide by any of that.

Enjoyed the show. Hope this comment is useful.

Linotype is pronounced "line-a-type or line-o-type". The Linotype company, which sells fonts, originally sold a hot-metal composition machine that used die molds and molten metal to set "slugs" of type for printing; each slug of type was a "line of type."

The Linotype machine is largely a museum piece today; however, over the years the Linotype corporation designed many type faces for printing and, in keeping with society's move to electronic composition, became a leading supplier of type faces for the computer world.

The history of Linotype makes for interesting reading; you'll find the story on the Linotype web site at http://www.linotype.com/10-48-10/aboutlinotype.html

I almost cried when I first tried out media central. It's universal now (which I was waiting for), supports the apple remote, and is BLAZING fast....way faster than front row. It also plays my avi files. Opening directories is instant....faster than instant, I can't comprehend how well it performs.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Tim,
I recently downloaded your last three episodes after finding you through the Roundtable podcast. I really like your content and podcast format. I appreciate the extensive show notes both online and within the feed on my ipod. I find it difficult to take notes of web address as I drive, so having all of the links on the pod is very nice once I get back to one of my computers.
Thanks again for the timely content,
Todd
