On episode #9 coming out on Tuesday we’re going to look at the top Mac freeware applications out there. Who says they’re the top? You’ll have to wait and find out. I can tell you that there are 6 of them that we’ll be looking at and I know that there will be at least one, if not more, that you’ll want to download and install after listening. Man I love Mac software..
We’re also chatting again with Robert from the macCompanion about a few items he’s been looking at. I hope you download and listen. Also, make sure you drop me an email and let me know what you’d like to hear and what you think of the podcast.

Today I was invited to look at the beta version of the new website Odeo. Odeo is a website that allows you to find a podcast, subscribe to a podcast, sync these podcasts with your computer and then, if the mood hits you, create your own podcast, all in one place.
Here’s the background on Odeo, “Odeo was founded in December, 2004 by Noah Glass and Evan Williams. Noah had been helping individuals publish audio to the web for over two years with his company, ListenLab, which provided a service called AudBlog (now part of Odeo). Evan was most recently with Google, where he ran their personal publishing service, Blogger, which he co-founded in 1999 and sold to Google in early 2003.” So you see the excitement around the opening of Odeo was well founded, it comes with deep roots in the blogging and online audio fields.
The website will be open for a public beta shortly and you can see for yourself the experience that Ev and Noah bring to Odeo. I have a lot of questions, but as the current website tells us, Odeo is still deep in beta and many features are yet to be introduced and many bugs must still be eradicated. Suffice it for me to say that you’ll need to bookmark the site and make certain you visit Odeo as soon as it opens to the public. Once it comes out of beta, or nears that milestone, I’ll do a full review of Odeo. In the meantime, here will be the link to my podcast listing on Odeo.
1)Speed Download 3.0.10: the absolute best download manager for Mac OS X offering the fastest download rates, auto-resuming all the time, and a ton of other must have features.
2) Adium: the greatest multi-protocol instant messenger.
3) FileMaker Pro 7: fantastic database creation platform.
4) iPodderX: need I say more
5) Apple Remote Desktop 2.2: great management software for all the Macs and PCs on my network.
6) Timbuktu Pro 8.1.1: another great Mac/PC remote control/management software. I use TB2 as well because its easier to setup in order to connect to remote machines behind a router. Apple Remote Desktop isn’t as flexible.
7) Little Snitch: an absolute must have that offers piece of mind knowing that no application will ever make a connection without you knowing about it.
TextWrangler: a very powerful text editor that’s less of overkill than BBEdit for most of my uses.
9) Transmit: great FTP program.
10) iViewMedia Pro: an extremely fast and powerful media organizer. Blows away iPhoto and most apps of its kind.
The new website, Podcast Awards is now open and taking nominations. Please head on over to the website and nominate your favorite podcasts for each category. Thank you!

It was brought to my attention that I had my settings wrong on the website when it came to comments. I think I fixed that and you can now enter comments by entering your name and email address rather then logging in without having a registration process in place. I apologize for the error on my part. Please feel free to leave comments as well as e-mailing me direct.
