Rebecca Gates of the Spinanes

I found myself listening to the classic indie rock album Manos this afternoon and wondering what the hell ever became of Rebecca from The Spinanes? The last thing I recall is Teddy Leo playing in her back up band in 1998 and then my memory of The Spinanes fades to black.

    She put out a halfway-decent mini-album under her own name a few years back called Ruby Series, and also did a few tours that featured stops at Urban Outfitter locations (I never saw any of those shows). Some of those shows featured Amy Dominguez on cello and an Arthur Russell cover (why didn't I ever see any of those shows?). The last time I saw her was backstage at a free July 4th show of Matador bands (Malkmus, YLT, etc.) in Battery Park a couple of years ago. Glad to see she's back doing some music.
